Assistant Principal Irving McGuire stands beside a large interactive screen displaying a Jeopardy-style review game as part of a “Moving to Mastery” station focused on system principles. Several students, identified as McKenzie Yeager, Zechariah Conner, Joi Desouza are seated around a table, actively engaged in the activity. One student points at the board while others watch and participate, demonstrating collaboration, critical thinking, and excitement for learning in a small-group instructional setting.

At Sonnie Hereford Elementary, we are committed to ensuring every student is prepared, confident, and equipped to demonstrate mastery on the ACAP. Our Moving to Mastery Hours serve as a strategic and intentional structure designed to maximize student achievement through targeted instruction.

During this dedicated block of time, grade-levels are divided into small, focused groups based on student needs and critical standards. This allows for differentiated instruction and ensures that every child receives the support necessary to grow.

Students rotate through multiple stations, spending approximately 20 minutes in each, engaging in high-impact, standards-based lessons. Each station is designed with purpose, focusing on key areas such as vocabulary, comprehension, phonics, problem-solving, and text-dependent writing. Instruction is data-driven, interactive, and aligned directly to ACAP expectations.

These rotations not only reinforce foundational skills but also build confidence, stamina, and test-taking readiness. Through intentional planning, small group instruction, and targeted support, we are empowering our students to take ownership of their learning and conquer the ACAP.
