Greetings North Alabama Educators,

North Alabama Society of Women Engineers is excited to share that preparations for the 2026 North Alabama STEM Essay Contest are underway! While we are ironing out the final details for this year’s contest, we wanted to give students and teachers an opportunity to prepare and be ready to engage once the contest opens through an early awareness campaign.

Key Details:

The purpose of the contest is to foster an interest in STEM in middle school students. The contest is open to all 6th grade students attending public, private, parochial, or home schools in the following counties: Blount, Cherokee, Colbert, Cullman, Dekalb, Etowah, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marion, Marshall, Morgan, or Winston. Prizes include cash awards, STEM kits, STEM books, and school awards. The full contest details including prompt, exact prizes, and submission form will be available November 1, 2025. In the meantime, we encourage you to share this with other educators and families and consider incorporating STEM-themed writing activities into your curriculum to help students prepare for the contest. You can also visit our website to find more contest information, including previous prompts and winning essays.

Thank you for helping us inspire the next generation of STEM leaders!

Best,
