Weatherly Heights Elementary is excited to welcome Ms. Victoria Hackett, National Board Certified Teacher, as our new Reading Coach. With a deep love for literacy, a strong foundation in the science of reading, and a genuine passion for supporting both students and teachers, Ms. Hackett brings energy, expertise, and heart to this important role.
Ms. Hackett’s journey into education began early. Growing up with a mother who taught special education for 40 years, she spent countless hours helping in her mom’s classroom and witnessing the impact a dedicated teacher can make. While she originally planned to become an engineer, everything changed during her junior year of high school when an elective placed her in a kindergarten classroom. Seeing students learn and grow in real time was the moment she knew education was her path.
With a degree in early childhood and elementary education, Ms. Hackett intentionally focused her studies on the science of reading, knowing she wanted to work with students who needed intensive academic support. As she taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade, her love for reading instruction grew.
She found joy in the flexibility and differentiation that literacy allows and embraced a mindset of continuous learning, testing strategies, reflecting on what worked, and refining her practice to meet students’ needs.
Inspired by her internship teacher, an NBCT herself, Ms. Hackett pursued National Board Certification to deepen her practice. The process challenged her to align instruction closely with student growth and reflect more deeply on differentiation.
The teaching portion of the process was especially meaningful, as it encouraged her to try new learning techniques and focus more intentionally on student progress. Component 2, in particular, reshaped how she approaches both whole-group and small-group reading instruction.
Ms. Hackett has always envisioned herself as an instructional leader, and the reading coach role felt like a natural next step as she continued her graduate studies. When the opportunity at Weatherly Heights arose, it aligned perfectly with her passion for literacy. Now, she gets to collaborate with teachers and dive deeply into reading instruction across classrooms.
As reading coach, Ms. Hackett hopes students experience an engaging learning environment where they build essential skills, confidence, and a love of reading. She is especially excited to support teachers with phonics instruction and strengthening foundational literacy skills school-wide. Her long-term goal is to see Weatherly Heights rank among the top three schools in the district for literacy, building on the strong foundation already in place.
Outside of school, Ms. Hackett enjoys spending time with her “very handsome” dog and her supportive family. She loves staying active through CrossFit and recently completed her first half marathon in October.
“Hi, my name is Victoria Hackett, and I’m excited to join this amazing school community, contribute my enthusiasm and hard work, and build great memories and connections with everyone.”
We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Hackett to Weatherly Heights and look forward to the positive impact she will make for our students, teachers, and readers across the school.
