Weatherly Heights Elementary is celebrating an exciting milestone as students earned top recognition in a Huntsville-area design competition hosted by the Alabama Center for Architecture.
This year marked the first time Weatherly Heights students participated in the contest, which invited students to step into the role of architects by designing and illustrating their own dream hotel. The challenge encouraged students to think creatively about location, structure, features, and accessibility, while designing spaces that are welcoming and engaging for all.
A total of seven Weatherly Heights students chose to participate, representing the school with creativity, innovation, and thoughtful design.
Among those participants, two students received top honors:
E.C. Guillen earned 1st Place in the 4th grade division
A. Hokr earned Honorable Mention in the 3rd grade division
Notably, these were the only two award-winning entries from the entire district, making this achievement especially significant for Weatherly Heights.
Students were recognized during an awards ceremony held on March 3rd at Stovehouse, where they were celebrated for their work and received art supplies to continue developing their creativity and artistic skills.
While these recognitions are a tremendous accomplishment, Weatherly Heights is equally proud of all students who participated. Entering a regional competition requires creativity, effort, and the confidence to share original ideas, and each student demonstrated those qualities through their work.
This achievement reflects the strong culture of creativity, problem-solving, and student initiative at Weatherly Heights Elementary. As the school continues to encourage opportunities like this, it looks forward to even more students sharing their talents and exploring new ways to learn, create, and innovate.
