Weatherly Heights Elementary transformed into a hub of curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning as students, families, and staff came together for an unforgettable STEAM Night. With the school’s “Out of This World” theme as the backdrop, the evening was filled with exploration, innovation, and a whole lot of Roadrunner pride.
From the moment families walked through the doors, the energy was electric. Students eagerly guided visitors through a wide variety of interactive stations they had helped design, plan, and run. Each station invited participants to think, create, and experiment in meaningful ways. Highlights from the evening included paper rocket launches inspired by the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, static electricity experiments, catapult building challenges, origami and art stations, rainbow light and prism activities, sound waves and echolocation investigations, Snap Circuits builds, and the Pattern Power Button Lab. Every station was more than just an activity. It was a chance for students to step into the role of teacher, engineer, scientist, and creator.
One of the most powerful parts of the night was seeing students take ownership of their learning. Fifth-grade students played a key role in planning and running many of the stations, guiding participants, explaining concepts, and managing materials. They weren’t just participating in STEAM. They were living it. Through this experience, students practiced communication and leadership skills, problem-solving and critical thinking, collaboration and teamwork, and real-world application of STEAM concepts. The result was a night where learning felt authentic, exciting, and meaningful.
Events like STEAM Night do not happen without the support of an incredible community. Weatherly Heights is fortunate to have a network of dedicated teachers, staff, and PTA volunteers who worked behind the scenes and on the front lines to make the evening a success. From organizing materials and running stations to welcoming families and serving concessions, every contribution helped create a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.
STEAM Night is more than a fun event. It reflects a larger commitment to providing students with opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics in engaging, hands-on ways. Experiences like this spark curiosity and creativity, build confidence in problem-solving, show students how learning connects to the real world, and strengthen the partnership between school and community. Most importantly, they remind students that learning can be joyful, collaborative, and full of possibility.
As the evening came to a close, one thing was clear. Weatherly Heights truly is out of this world because of its students, families, and staff. Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported us, and helped make this night such a success. We cannot wait to see where our Roadrunners’ curiosity takes them next.
