Williams Middle School students participated in the annual SCRIPPS Spelling Bee. Mr. Graham and Dr. Baird tested the phonetic prowess of the volunteer 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Some of our participants did not think they would perform as well as they did, while others seemed to surpass their own abilities. The competition was tough but resulted in three champions: one from each grade completing. The sixth-grade champion nearly halved the pool with the correct spelling of the word "minnows," the 7th-grade champion won on the word "suspicious," and the 8th-grade champion's final word was "spectators." The grand champion of the three was the 7th-grade winner on the word "conscience." The event demonstrated the grit and ability of our students, and we expect a great showing at the regional competition.
