A scarecrow dressed like a Goldilocks astronaut hangs in the Botanical Garden.

The first scarecrow visitors will see while walking the Botanical Garden’s Scarecrow Trail is Artemis Virtual Academy’s first community project.

The theme for this year’s Trail is Fairy Tales. Artemis faculty decided to create a character from “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.”

“We really wanted to portray our space connection, so I did a quick Google search and found a new young adult book written about Goldilocks going into space to find another planet as friendly as Earth,” counselor Erin Coggins said. “It was the perfect character for us to create to fit the theme and to represent our school.”

The scarecrow is dressed in pink coveralls with the Artemis logo on her pocket and is equipped with a space helmet and jet pack. Of course, she has long, blonde hair.

“It was a group effort, and our Goldilocks was created with love and a lot of Pinterest ideas,” Coggins said. “We knew from the beginning that we wanted to do some community events to not just get our name out there but do some things that our students can enjoy.”
