When teachers Arick Shankles and Clayton Wilson discovered their shared passion for chess, they knew they wanted to start a chess team for students who attend Artemis.
The chess team currently has five members and meets every Thursday. Students who attend are treated to a short lesson on the game, including the rules, examine the game of professional players and spend quality time playing the game. Professional clocks are used so students get the feel of tournament play.
"These students are developing a passion for chess, resilience and engagement with their fellow students," Shankles said.
