Small but mighty are the best words to describe the Artemis Science Club.
The club, made up of eighth grader Tim Weimer and seventh grader Emory Gibisch, meets once weekly virtually and once a month in person to participate in science activities. The club activities have included a Lego luncheon, Mole Day and a beekeeping field trip.
"The purpose of the club is to explore different branches of science and try to make it applicable to every day life," science teacher Annette Perkins said.
This week the club met to build and launch rockets on a digital platform. The activity required the students to think about fuel, engines, payload, coupling and structure as it relates to being successful in launching rockets.
"The purpose of the game is to build a solid rocket and see how far into space we can launch it," Weimer said.
Perkins says the next big thing on the club's agenda is to participate in a community project so students can learn how to apply science to a greater good. Both Weimer and Gibisch look forward to the project and their weekly meetings.
"Ms. Perkins makes learning science fun," Gibisch said. "It's a hang out club where we can still have fun actually doing science."
