Dr. Jennifer McKinney and senior Julia Manley participated in the Groudbreaking Ceremony of the new Chapman Middle School and STEM Magnet Middle School that will also serve as a home for Artemis.

The building, expected to open in January 2028, will be a combined campus of 161,9000 sq. ft with specialized classrooms, a full size gym and safe space, athletic spaces, interactive teaching walls, an esports lab and arena for esports, robotics and drones.

Representing Artemis, Manley informed the audience of the impact attending virtual school has had on the last two years of high school.

"Artemis has offered me a chance to handle my education in a more personal way, while the teachers, counselor and principal guided me along the way," Manley said. "I feel prepared to move on in my academic studies, and appreciate everything Dr. McKinney and Mrs. Coggins have done for me."

Artemis, in its second year of existence, was housed at Blossomwood Elementary and Lee High School respectfully last year, moving to the Chapman Middle's campus for the 25-26 school year. McKinney says she looks forward to the new space the new building will provide.

"It was such an honor to participate in the groundbreaking and to be a part of making history in Huntsville City Schools," McKinney said. "It's going to be three schools, under one roof, all with the same goal of working towards excellence for the students of Huntsville."
