A Message on Cold & Flu Season

Huntsville City Schools (HCS) is asking families and staff members for their support in mitigating the spread of illnesses.

With the cold, flu, and RSV spreading across Alabama, the district is reminding stakeholders of good habits related to health and hygiene:

  • Wash hands frequently
  • Avoid touching face
  • Stay home when experiencing flu and flu-like symptoms

HCS urges students, families, and staff members to monitor themselves and their families for symptoms and to stay home until symptom-free for at least 24 hours without medication. Symptoms include the following:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue/tiredness
  • Vomiting and diarrhea

HCS encourages stakeholders to contact their doctor or urgent care for guidance if they experience any symptoms.

The HCS Health Services team will continue to monitor conditions both within our schools and across the community. Disinfecting will continue to occur at schools and campuses.
