AAA Recertified as Magnet School of Distinction

Huntsville City Schools and the Magnet Programs department is proud to announce that the Academy for Academics and Arts (AAA) has successfully completed all components of being reauthorized as a magnet school of distinction from Magnet Schools of America. This newly minted authorization will be in place until August 2026!

A brief reception was held today in the Academy for Academics and Arts Theatre Lobby to commemorate the accomplishment.

AAA Middle Principal Kitrise Torain said, “It’s a huge deal.  When you’re talking about Magnet Schools of America, that’s not just Huntsville Alabama or just Alabama.  You’re talking about magnet schools around the United States.”

The distinction means that not only is AAA recognized from a national organization, but they are a part of an elite group of magnet schools that demonstrate excellence and are committed to continually growing and providing high-quality, innovative curriculum and instructional programs that promote choice, equity, and academic excellence for all students.

“I think it says a lot about what happens in our classrooms on a daily basis,” said AAA Elementary Principal Dr. Evelyn Coffey, “what our teachers are doing, [and] what our students are doing.”  She went on to add that neither she nor Principal Torain did it all alone.  “It took the whole team,” she said.

The certification process is based on the five pillars of magnet schools and the National Magnet School Standards of Excellence.

The faculty and staff of AAA as well as students, families, and partners should be commended for their active roles in supporting efforts and striving for excellence!
