Huntsville City Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay tomorrow on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026. HCS will push back bus pick-up times, employee reporting times, and school start times by 2 hours.

Schools will operate on a normal dismissal schedule. All after-school programs, athletic events, and extracurricular activities will move forward as scheduled.

Families are encouraged to send students to school dressed for cold temperatures. Drivers are asked to use extra caution when traveling to and from school campuses.

Elementary, Middle, and Junior High Schools

  • Instruction will begin at 10 a.m.

  • Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for student drop-off.

  • Teachers and staff members should report to work by 9:45 a.m.

High Schools

  • Instruction will begin at 10:30 a.m.

  • Doors open at 10 a.m. for student drop-off.

  • Teachers and staff members should report to work by 10:15 a.m.

Central Office and District Support Personnel

  • Employee report times will be pushed back 2-hours.

  • Any employees who normally report to work at 6:30 a.m. (such as CNP workers and custodians) should report to work at 8:30 a.m.

  • Employees who normally report to work at 8 a.m. should report to work at 10 a.m.

  • Employees who have any questions about their reporting status should contact their direct supervisor.

District leaders will continue to monitor weather conditions closely and will share any additional information with families and staff as needed.

Previous January 25, 2026 Notification

Huntsville City Schools (HCS) and district offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, due to the onset of winter weather. This decision prioritizes the safety and well-being of our students, families, and staff members.

  • Activities: All after-school programs, athletics, and extracurricular events previously scheduled for Monday, Jan. 26, will be postponed.

  • Attendance: Students and employees should not report to campuses unless otherwise directed by their supervisors.

  • E-Learning: No e-learning sessions will take place.

District leaders will assess conditions throughout the day on Monday, Jan. 26, and issue a decision by that evening regarding school operations for Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026.

Previous January 21, 2026 Notification

District leaders are monitoring forecasts for potentially hazardous winter weather expected to impact our area this weekend.

As HCS prepares for the possibility of schedule adjustments early next week, students are encouraged to take home all personal items (such as coats, gloves, hats, and other cold weather clothing), school-issued devices and chargers, water bottles, and lunch boxes on Friday afternoon.

Additionally, HCS is rescheduling the Curriculum Showcase originally planned for Saturday, January 24, 2026. The event will now take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Huntsville Center for Technology.

HCS will continue to prioritize the safety of our students, families, and staff and will share any updates to our normal schedule as conditions warrant.
