Huntsville City Schools (HCS) is expanding access to Artemis Virtual Academy to offer enrollment opportunities to students across a five-county region for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.
The Huntsville City Board of Education recently approved updates to the district’s admissions policy that will allow eligible students residing in Jackson, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan counties to apply for enrollment in Artemis Virtual Academy.
Previously, enrollment at Artemis Virtual Academy was limited to students residing within Huntsville City Schools attendance zones.
School leaders say the expansion comes in response to growing interest from families seeking a flexible and high-quality virtual learning option for their children.
“Families across North Alabama have expressed strong interest in the opportunities Artemis Virtual Academy provides,” said Dr. Jennifer McKinney, principal of Artemis Virtual Academy. “This expansion allows us to serve more students with a flexible learning environment while continuing to provide the high academic standards and support families expect from Huntsville City Schools.”
Artemis Virtual Academy serves students in grades K-12 and offers a fully virtual educational experience with supportive teachers, digital learning resources, and individualized academic support.
Enrollment for out-of-district students will be based on space availability and will be valid for one school year at a time, requiring families to reapply annually. No tuition will be charged for eligible students accepted into the program.
Applications are now open for the upcoming school year. Families interested in attending may complete the Artemis online application to apply. For additional information about the program, families are encouraged to contact the school directly.
