The Huntsville City Board of Education on Tuesday approved a purchase and sale agreement to acquire property in the Hampton Cove area as part of the district’s capital plan.

The agreement authorizes the purchase of approximately 82 acres located north of the Raceway at the intersection of Highway 431 and Old Big Cove Road for $3.68 million.

District leaders say the property is expected to support the future development of a new elementary or middle school in the Hampton Cove area as part of the district’s 10-year capital plan.

“This purchase represents another important step in planning for the future growth of Huntsville City Schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Clarence Sutton. “As our community continues to grow, especially in the Hampton Cove area, we want to ensure we are proactively preparing for the long-term needs of students and families.”

The new school is currently expected to open for the 2033 school year.
