HCS is proud to recognize 10 seniors who earned the prestigious distinction of being named 2027 National Merit Semifinalists!

Based on their outstanding academic achievements, this recognition places them among the most elite students in the country and will allow them to have an opportunity to continue in the competition for about 6,700 National Merit Scholarships worth approximately $24 million that will be offered next spring.

HCS students are as follows:

Grissom High:

  • Alexander Berry

  • Julia von Herrman

  • Sophia Lin

  • Laura Muntele

Huntsville High:

  • Henry Keener

  • Samantha Reese

New Century Technology High

  • Austin McCulley Ford

  • Jett Law

  • Caitlin McCloud

To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
