Huntsville City Schools and the Dyslexia Department are proud to celebrate a major milestone in reading literacy and specialized instruction. Angie Parker, an Alabama Reading Initiative (ARI) Reading Interventionist at James I. Dawson Elementary School, has officially passed the Academic Language Therapy Association’s (ALTA) Competency Exam, earning the highly distinguished credential of Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT).
This national certification places Ms. Parker among the top experts in the country for reading instruction, specialized dyslexia therapy, and structured literacy intervention. Becoming a Certified Academic Language Therapist is a rigorous, multi-year commitment that goes far beyond general teaching requirements. While standard reading programs focus on broad literacy skills, a Certified Academic Language Therapist is uniquely equipped to treat severe reading, writing, and spelling difficulties—particularly those associated with dyslexia and related written-language processing disorders.
Ms. Parker’s advanced training represents a direct investment in the success of the students at Dawson Elementary.
